Mobile & Field Welding

TMG dispatches service trucks and AWS D1.1 certified welders for on-site fit-up, retrofits, repairs, and emergency response across SC, NC, and GA. Field welds are made to qualified procedures (WPS) so work done where the steel stands still passes inspection.

Welding where the steel stands

What does mobile field welding cover?

Mobile field welding brings certified welding to the jobsite when steel cannot go back to the shop. TMG rolls equipped service trucks and AWS D1.1 certified welders to the site for on-site fit-up, structural retrofits, weld and member repairs, and emergency response. Every field weld is made to a qualified procedure, so work done in place holds up to the same inspection as shop work.

The value is time. A rejected connection, a damaged member, or a late field change can stall the trades stacked behind the steel. Instead of demobilizing and re-fabricating, TMG fixes it where it is, to spec, and keeps the critical path moving. Because the same company fabricates and erects, a field call usually brings back a crew that already knows the frame.

When to call

Field welding services

On-site fit-up

Field connections, miter and level adjustments, and last-mile fit where shop tolerances meet real conditions.

Retrofits

Reinforcing, added supports, and structural modifications to steel that is already standing and loaded.

Repairs

Cracked welds, damaged members, corrosion cut-outs, and connection repairs brought back to spec in place.

Emergency response

Rapid dispatch when a failed weld or damaged member is holding up the schedule or a life-safety condition.

Certified & documented

Why AWS D1.1 and a WPS matter in the field

A field weld is only as good as the procedure behind it. TMG welders are AWS D1.1 certified and work to qualified Welding Procedure Specifications, so a connection made on a lift is documented and defensible, not an undocumented patch the special inspector rejects.

AWS D1.1

The structural welding code for steel. Governs the welds TMG makes in the shop and in the field alike.

Qualified WPS

Written, tested weld procedures covering process, filler, joint, and position, so field work is repeatable and inspectable.

Certified welders

Welders qualified to the procedures they run, with the documentation projects and inspectors require.

Service coverage

Trucks across SC, NC, and GA from a Moncks Corner base, close to the Lowcountry commercial corridor.

Related scopes

Backed by a full fabrication shop

Field welding is strongest when the crew behind it can also fabricate the replacement part and erect the fix.

FAQ

Frequently asked

What is mobile field welding?

Mobile field welding is structural welding performed on the jobsite instead of in a shop. TMG dispatches equipped service trucks and AWS D1.1 certified welders to handle on-site fit-up, retrofits, repairs, and emergency response, welding steel where it already stands rather than pulling it back to the fabrication shop.

Are TMG field welders certified?

Yes. TMG field welders are AWS D1.1 certified and work to qualified weld procedure specifications (WPS). Field welding is held to the same code and documentation standard as shop work, so structural connections made in the field meet the project specification and inspection requirements.

What is a WPS and why does it matter?

A Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) is the written, qualified recipe for a weld: process, filler metal, joint design, position, and parameters. Working to a WPS is what makes a field weld defensible under AWS D1.1 and acceptable to the special inspector, rather than an undocumented on-the-spot fix.

How fast can TMG respond to a field welding call?

TMG runs service trucks across South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia, with a Moncks Corner base that keeps crews close to the Charleston-area corridor. Emergency and schedule-critical calls are prioritized, and same-day or next-day response is common for local Lowcountry work. Confirm timing with our team when you call.

Does field welding tie into TMG structural work?

Yes. Field welding is the same capability that closes out TMG erection: our crews already field-weld connections on the frames we put up. Because we fabricate and erect, a field weld request rarely means bringing in a stranger, it means the team that knows the steel comes back to it.
