CSI Division 05
Steel Services
TMG is a single-source steel subcontractor: one accountable team that fabricates and erects your Division 05 package. Structural steel, miscellaneous metals, stairs and rail, mobile field welding, and shop fabrication, all under one contract across South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia.
The single-source model
What does a single-source steel subcontractor do?
A single-source steel subcontractor carries one contract for the detailing, fabrication, delivery, and erection of your steel. TMG owns the whole chain: we produce the shop drawings, fabricate in-house, sequence deliveries to the crane, and self-perform the erection. Steel gates nearly every trade behind it, so one accountable party protects your critical path.
Most steel risk lives at the seam between the fabricator and a separate erector. When a field fit goes wrong, two companies point at each other while your schedule slips. TMG closes that seam. Because the same team that detailed and cut the steel is the team bolting it up in the field, fabrication is sequenced to the erection plan from day one, and a single QA/QC chain runs from mill certs to final connection.
Capabilities
Five steel scopes, one accountable team
Every service below is self-performed and can be bundled into one Division 05 award or bid on its own.
Structural Steel Fabrication & Erection
One accountable team fabricates the frame and erects it, so the fab-to-field handoff never becomes your problem.
- Beams, columns & girders
- Base & connection plates
- Field bolt-up & plumb
- Deck support
Steel Erection & Field Operations
Self-perform ironworker crews set, plumb, bolt, and weld the steel in the field. Crane, rigging, sequencing, and turnover owned in-house by the same team that fabricated it.
- Crane & rigging
- Bolt-up & torqued connections
- Plumb, level & align
- Decking & detail steel
Miscellaneous Metals
The coordination-heavy Division 05 50 00 scope GCs struggle to award, self-performed and delivered on the erection curve.
- Embeds & lintels
- Pipe bollards
- Bar grating
- Ladders & cages
Stairs, Handrail, Railing & Fence
Egress and finish-exposed metalwork built to IBC, OSHA, and ADA, with tube-bent rail and CNC-plasma detail.
- Egress & feature stairs
- Guardrail & handrail
- Tube-bent & ornamental rail
- Fence & gates
Mobile & Field Welding
Certified field crews and service trucks for on-site fit-up, repairs, and retrofits, welded to AWS D1.1.
- On-site structural welding
- Field fixes & retrofits
- Emergency response
- Certified procedures (WPS)
Shop Capabilities: CNC Plasma, Tube Bending & Rush Fabrication
In-house CNC plasma cutting and tube/pipe bending, with standard and rush fabrication tiers for schedule recovery.
- CNC plasma cutting
- Tube & pipe bending
- Rush / expedited fabrication
- Carbon, stainless, aluminum & exotics
CSI Division 05
Where our scope sits in the spec
Estimators read steel by CSI section. Here is how TMG's self-performed scopes map to Division 05 and the governing weld standard, so you can match our capabilities to your bid package at a glance.
| CSI / Standard | Scope | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| 05 12 00 | Structural Steel Fabrication & Erection | Beams, columns, girders, base and connection plates, field bolt-up, decking support, and steel foundation piles. |
| 05 12 00 | Steel Erection & Field Operations | Self-perform ironworker crews: crane and rigging, setting steel, bolt-up, plumb and align, connection welding, and turnover. |
| 05 50 00 | Miscellaneous Metals | Embeds, lintels, bollards, bar grating, ladders and cages, platforms, catwalks, mezzanines, and misc supports. |
| 05 50 00 / 05 70 00 | Stairs, Railing & Architectural Metals | Egress and feature stairs, guardrail and handrail, tube-bent and ornamental rail, fence and gates. |
| AWS D1.1 | Mobile & Field Welding | On-site fit-up, retrofits, repairs, and emergency response by certified welders to qualified procedures. |
| 05 | Shop Capabilities | CNC plasma cutting, tube and pipe bending, and standard plus rush fabrication for schedule recovery. |
All scopes governed by AISC 303/360 and AWS D1.1 as applicable.
Why single-source
Why award fabrication and erection to one sub?
Splitting steel across a fabricator and a separate erector saves nothing if the coordination gap costs you the critical path. One accountable sub trades that risk for schedule certainty.
One accountable party
One contract, one point of responsibility from shop drawing to final bolt. No trade boundary to litigate when a field condition changes.
Fab sequenced to erection
We fabricate in the order the crane needs steel, not in the order that suits a shop with no stake in the field.
One QA/QC chain
Mill certs, weld procedures, and inspection run through a single quality system instead of two disconnected ones.
Schedule certainty
Standard and rush fabrication tiers, self-perform crews, and mobile welding let us recover time when a job slips.

FAQ
Frequently asked
What is a single-source steel subcontractor?
A single-source steel subcontractor holds one contract for both fabrication and erection of your Division 05 package. TMG details, fabricates, delivers, and erects structural steel, miscellaneous metals, stairs, and rail as one accountable party, so the fab-to-field handoff never becomes a gap in your schedule.
Which steel scopes does TMG self-perform?
TMG self-performs structural steel fabrication and erection, miscellaneous metals, stairs and railing, mobile field welding, and in-house shop work including CNC plasma cutting and tube bending. Awarding these scopes to one sub removes the coordination seams that open when work is split across multiple trades.
What regions does TMG serve?
TMG is headquartered in Moncks Corner, South Carolina and works across South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia, with a preference for local Lowcountry projects. The Moncks Corner base keeps crews and deliveries close to the Charleston-area data-center and commercial corridor.
Is TMG certified to fabricate and erect structural steel?
Yes. TMG is an AISC Certified Fabricator and a Certified Steel Erector, employs AWS D1.1 certified welders, and is licensed, insured, and bonded across SC, NC, and GA with a documented OSHA safety program.
Can TMG take a single trade package instead of the full scope?
Yes. GCs can award the full Division 05 package or a single scope such as miscellaneous metals, stairs and rail, or mobile welding. The advantage of bundling is one QA/QC chain and one schedule, but each service stands on its own bid.
